Job Description

SAIS Summer Academy TA

This summer SAIS is hosting its first Summer Academy, a program designed for talented undergraduates interested in foreign policy careers and earning graduate-level credits. Brad Potter will serve as the primary instructor for the Academy's course while many senior faculty from across SAIS will join for guest lectures, site visits, and excursions outside of DC. The program runs from June 15 - July 10. You can learn more about the Summer Academy here: https://sais.jhu.edu/academics/diploma-certificate-and-non-degree-programs/summer-academies/summer-academy-washington-dc

The Summer Academy is looking to hire a TA to support all aspects of the program. Duties will include:

  • Providing coaching to students on their assignments, especially memo writing
  • Holding office hours to review course material
  • Assisting with evaluation of student work
  • Attending classroom sessions
  • Providing organizational support for in-class simulations, games, and activities
  • Providing logistical support during site visits and excursions

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Earned high marks in introductory strategic studies and/or American foreign policy coursework
  • Experience, professional or academic, completing policy-oriented assignments
  • Experience organizing events and staffing distinguished visitors
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Availability 19 hr/week between June 1 - July 17

The position is especially well suited for a student considering a PhD and looking to gain some instructional experience to that end. If the TA is interested, she or he may have an opportunity to run one of the classroom seminars. Interested candidates should send a resume and a brief (no more than 500 word) essay explaining their qualifications for the position to brad.potter@jhu.edu. Applications are due by Friday, February 7.
