Writing Tutors for MAGP - Fall 2020 Position

Job Description


The Master of Arts in Global Policy (MAGP) program at JHU’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC invites applications for the position of Graduate Writing Tutors for the Fall 2020 semester. Reporting to the MAGP’s designated Assistant Director of Degree Programs (Office of Academic Affairs), the writing tutors will work directly with MAGP’s mid-career graduate student cohort during their paper-writing process and be available to assist individual or small groups of students as needed.

Fall writing tutors will work with incoming students on their coursework-related writing assignments and with continuing students on their capstone policy memos by helping develop outlines, brainstorm policy recommendations, and structure the final memos.

Successful candidates should possess many of the following qualities:

  • Excellent writing skills; policy writing experience is a plus
  • General knowledge of global policy topics and issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills especially with a cohort of older, more experienced students
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent time-management and multi-tasking abilities
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented

Time Commitment/Remuneration:

The position requires approximately 10 hours of one-on-one student assistance per week as needed. This requires a three -month commitment (September through November) with the possibility of extending for a longer period. The position will earn $18/hour.  Applicants must be matriculating Johns Hopkins University students and eligible to work within the JHU system. International students are welcome to apply.
