Computer / AV Technician

What: Full Time SAIS student employee needed.

Why: to provide technology assistance and support to the faculty, staff, and students for Johns Hopkins University’s Advanced Academic Programs (AAP).

Where: 1717 Massachusetts Ave NW, (across the street from Nitze and DuPont Circle)

When: Shifts cover our evening classes, held Monday through Thursday from 4pm to 9pm.The normal daily shift is 4 to 5 hours.

Hours per week: 8 to 20

Ideally, we would like to hire 2 students who would each cover 2 nights.

Duties: The position is responsible for supporting instruction at 8 teaching studios (classrooms) in the Bernstein/Offit building in Washington DC. AAP has converted some classrooms into teaching studios. Instructors will use the studio to teach Zoom based classes. Responsibilities include: helping with set up of equipment; responding to requests for assistance with Zoom, helping with presentations, assisting with software applications, checking and responding to email, help with connecting to the wireless network; troubleshooting file access and/or printing problems; resolving ad-hoc computer and equipment issues; and ensuring a smooth flow of classes. You must be familiar with Zoom and providing customer support.

Qualifications: If you are good at technology, we can train you to do the job. Good working knowledge of Windows, Zoom, Microsoft Office, and various software, including browsers and email; experience with connecting and troubleshooting audio/visual equipment such as TVs and projectors.

Must have excellent communication skills with emphasis on service and customer satisfaction; have the ability to work independently; handle multiple priorities; be punctual and dependable, and have enthusiasm towards learning new technologies. We don’t expect you to know everything, but we do expect you to learn and become skillful with using our technology and equipment. We will offer you hands-on training.

Special Notes: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all JHU affiliates must practice safe protocols, including wearing a mask at all times, safe distancing, washing hands, and cleaning equipment. These practices are mandatory while working in any JHU campus building.
