Economics TA - Master of Arts in Global Policy (MAGP), Fall/Winter 21-22 Position

Job Description

The Master of Arts in Global Policy (MAGP) program at JHU’s Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC invites applications for the position of Economics Teaching Assistant. Reporting to MAGP’s designated Assistant Director of Degree Programs (Academic Affairs), the teaching assistant will work primarily on assisting and/or tutoring MAGP’s Cohort 7 students in their Global Trade & Policy and International Monetary Policy & Banking courses. The teaching assistant is encouraged (but not required) to attend the relevant course concurrently with the cohort during alternating Fridays and Saturdays (from September 2021 to February 2022) and be available for individual assistance to students as needed. Other related tasks may be assigned. Graduate students who have completed general coursework on Economics and Finance are especially encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates should possess many of the following experiences and/or skills:

  • General knowledge of graduate-level economics and trade/monetary policy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills especially with a cohort of older, more experienced students
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent time-management and multi-tasking abilities
  • Prior teaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to work independently with faculty and students

Time Commitment/Remuneration:

The position will require at least 5-10 hours on alternating Fridays/Saturdays with additional hours for individual/group tutorials as needed.  The position requires a six-month commitment (September to February).  The position will earn $18/hour.  Applicants must be matriculating Johns Hopkins University students and eligible to work within the JHU system. International students are welcome to apply.
