Writing Tutors Needed - Master of Arts in Global Policy (MAGP) Position

Job Description

The Master of Arts in Global Policy (MAGP) program at JHU’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC invites applications for the position of Graduate Writing Tutors for AY21-22. Reporting to MAGP’s designated Assistant Director of Degree Programs (Academic Affairs), the writing tutors will work directly with MAGP’s mid-career graduate student cohort during their paper-writing process as needed in their coursework.

Writing tutors will advise students on developing individual papers and in the Fall also with graduating students on creating their capstone policy memos by helping develop outlines, brainstorm policy recommendations, and structure the final memos.

Successful candidates should possess many of the following qualities:

  • Excellent writing skills; policy writing experience is a plus
  • General knowledge of global policy topics and issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills especially with a cohort of older, more experienced students
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent time-management and multi-tasking abilities
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented

Time Commitment/Remuneration:

The position requires approximately 10 hours of one-on-one student assistance per week as needed. The position requires a minimum four-month commitment (September to December) and may continue through the entire academic year. The position will earn $18/hour.  Applicants must be matriculating Johns Hopkins University students and eligible to work within the JHU system. International students are welcome to apply.
