HNC Peer Writing Assistant Position
The Hopkins-Nanjing Center (HNC) is hiring 1-2 peer writing assistants for the 2021-2022 academic year! This role works closely with the HNC Deputy Director and other student workers. Peer writing assistants hold one-on-one sessions with any member of the HNC community who wishes to discuss his or her written work. Writing assistants must be ready to discuss strategies for writing in a variety of discursive, and must be well-versed in English grammar, citing requirements, and paper formatting. Writing assistants may also be asked to work with other student workers supporting HNC blog and social media content, and other administrative duties.
Attend all scheduled shifts, on time, either in-person or virtually
Assist students with writing tasks and paper editing on a walk-in basis
Learn about the different formatting and citing styles as necessary
Write blog posts for HNC blog about your experiences as an HNC student, including academics, student life, events, etc. Conduct interviews with alumni, current students, and faculty for HNC blog and SAIS website. Must submit at least one blog post per month.
Develop and submit at least one social media post per week.
May be asked to assist with HNC event support.
Other tasks as assigned.
Previous writing center or tutoring experience preferred
Strong English-language writing skills
Enthusiastic about helping classmates improve their writing
Self-starter and adaptable; willing to take on new responsibilities should they arise.
Willingness to independently develop and carry out engaging social media and blog content.
Ability to work well with a team of fulltime staff and other student workers.
Must be enrolled as an HNC student for the entirety of the 2021-2022 academic year.
Must have completed and submitted FAFSA form by the time of application.
Previous communications and/or blogging experience preferred.
Typically 2-6 hours per week at the SAIS student worker rate of $15.20/hour for the entire semester.
